Cooling systems on air cooled engines are critical and it is probably one of the most neglected service items. We recommend after storage, once a year to remove your fan shroud and blow out all debris. Rodents can make nests during storage that can spell the end for your engine if not removed.
Keep your fuel fresh, use within 3 months of purchase. Keep your can sealed, do not store fuel in cans that have missing or broken caps. Temperature should be less than 90 degrees f. where fuel is stored. Purchase only Premium fuel from major manufacturers.
We recommend STARTRON Ethanol fuel additive, made by STARBRITE Marine Products. It is a good practice to treat all of your fuel. Keep equipment tanks within 1-1/2" of full after use. During off season storage: Close fuel valve and run engine until it quits to clear fuel from carburetor.
Oil is the life blood of all things piston powered!
For the best performance and life, keep oil to full to the mark at all times.
For summer use above 45 degrees, use HD30. Do not use in colder temps.
For winter use 10w30 is suitable to -5 degrees f.. In extremely cold climates, 5w30 is recommended.
Synthetic oils should not be used on new engines until after 50 hrs use to insure proper break-in 10w30 grade synthetic is the only one we recommend and should be changed at least once per year.
Small engines will consume thinner oils like synthetics and 5w30 more readily, especially as they get older. It is not uncommon for a new engine to use oil in the first 50 hrs. of life
SO BE SURE TO CHECK AND ADD OIL AS NEEDED!
Low oil Pressure (blood). High Fever (Temperature). Internal Bleeding (Ruptured head gasket) If your workhorse is sick, running poorly, smoking or cutting out when the work load is applied. It is trying to tell you service is needed. If attention is not given at this time and you continue to work the horse, you may wind up with a dead horse!
